Weekend Update
Weekend Update:
Friday night: We made veggie dumplings. Also, watched “The Others” with Nicole Kidman while enjoying a santa cruz organic micro-brew. Micro-brew was ok. It was a hefeweisen that was very hoppy. It was the winner of a local homebrew competition. The movie was good, a thriller.
Saturday: Woke up and went to the Cabrillo (local junior college) farmer’s market. We purchased chestnuts and radishes. Then we went to a store in Aptos where we found nothing. Next, we went to Capitola downtown, a delightful area right on the beach that represents what we thought Santa Cruz downtown would be with little shops and outdoor restaurants. We were looking for a dress for me to wear to the wedding coming up in November. This has been an ongoing search and we were fortunately successful. We then walked over to sit on the Capitola beach and watched the surfers. I’ve decided surfing looks much easier than I thought it would be. It seems to be basically just a lot of floating on your board waiting for the next wave. We then went to a great bakery to eat, Gayles, lunch. After that, we went to a food store to buy beer, bread, cheese and olives to bring to a friend’s house. We then quickly went to the gym and then went to Los Gatos (in the Santa Cruz mountains) to spend time with one of Pranav’s colleagues. He is renting space in a beautiful house on the mountain side. We spent most of the evening outside with him drinking and eating cheese.
Sunday: We slept in and then got some breakfast at a local bakery and ate it on the beach. We went to the lumber store to pick up a propane tank and some potting soil. Organic potting soil is big out here, so that is nice. What we realized though is that they use either feather meal or oyster meal in it. This is one thing we’re learning, organic does not necessarily mean vegetarian. Next, we went to a furniture store and fell is love with a travertine dinning room table from Italy. This of course is ridiculous because we do not have a dinning room at present to put such an item. Next, we went looking for a ceramic store and found it (closed). Finally, we went to an open house in the area we live in. It was a 4 bedroom for $950,000. It was beautiful, local to the university and had plenty of space. Of course, such a house is out of our budget but is fun to get to know the neighborhood and figure out what is available in the area.
